Rhode Island continually has one of the highest rates of unemployment in the US, whereas it was once one of the richest cities in the "new" world (mostly due to revenues from the slave trade).
Many people in Providence, Rhode Island have never even had a job. Not because they don't want to work, but because there are simply no jobs left after all the major industries in the state were gradually outsourced overseas, or made obsolete by the passage of time.
The Bezdomny Collective opted to give the citizens of Providence the chance to work, or at least pretend to, instead of wasting time looking for jobs that simply don't exist.
We did this by installing an artificial cubicle in the center of Downtown and inviting participants to join our phoney office in whatever capacity they imagined suitable for themselves.
